AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL!

As I walked out of my college class on philosophy, I heard a professor in another class screaming at the top of his voice. He was preaching like an evangelist. I asked someone who it was. The person told me it was Dr. Schlessinger, teaching on the history of America. I thought that I would take a class taught by him in the next semester. I wanted to see for myself how he could “teach” such a bland subject as American history so loud you could hear his voice all across the campus.
The next semester I took his class to see what he had to say. I was a registered Democrat at the time. But it was very apparent in the next few weeks that Dr. Schlessinger was really a Communist. He was yelling and screaming about the injustice of American politics.
The next night he spent the time denouncing William Jennings Bryan as an ignorant racist. Bryan was the man who was called the Great Commoner, because he championed the cause of the common men, the farmers, the workers, you and me. I knew that my maternal grandfather, Lloyd V. Flowers, considered William Jennings Bryan to be a hero among hard-working farmers like my grandfather.
I raised my hand. Dr. Schlessinger recognized me. I said, “You are wrong about William Jennings Bryan. He was a good man, a man who championed the working men of our country.” My own grandfather voted for him for president three times. Bryan was an old-fashioned Democrat, a good man, loved by nearly all the hard-working people, against the money-hungry Republicans, and he nearly won the presidency because he was against the fat-cat Republicans. His great speech, still studied in college, was “You shall not crucify mankind upon a cross of gold!” Dr. A. W. Tozer was a farmer’s son. He said in one of his books, that it was the greatest speech he had ever heard.
Dr. Schlessinger was surprised by my defence of William Jennings Bryan, the Great Commoner. Dr. Schlessinger started screaming. I picked up my books and walked out of his class.
But I came back the next night. I was a poor boy and it hurt to lose the tuition I had paid to take Schlessinger’s class.
As soon as I sat down in my seat, Dr. Schlessinger fixed his beady eyes on me and started screaming at the top of his lungs. “I see Mr. Hymers is back. He got very angry at me for excoriating William Jennings Bryan last night. Mr. Hymers is a Republican and so was Bryan. Mr. Hymers and Republicans like Bryan have ruined this country,” he yelled. I stood up and said, “Dr. Schlessinger, you know perfectly well that William Jennings Bryan was a Democrat! And the leader of the Democrat Party for over twenty-five years. And you don’t know me at all. How can you say that I am a Republican? I myself am a registered Democrat.”
Dr. Schlessinger was an older man, in his early sixties at the time. But he did not hear what I said. He was too busy screaming about the Republicans, myself and William Jennings Bryan.
I got an “A” on the midterm in his class. I got an “A” in whatever assignments I turned in. I was a straight “A” student in his class.
But when I got my transcript, Dr. Schlessinger gave me a “C” in the class. Thus way back in the 1960s I learned about what is now called “identity politics.” The next chance I got I re-registered as a Republican! I have never voted Democrat for President from that day to this! And I never will!
Even today I am criticized for being a “white, male Christian.” One young black man who was my friend left our church. He said to me on the phone, “Dr. Hymers, you cannot be my pastor because you have become a racist.”
Let me say this loud and clear. I am the same man I have always been. I stand by Abraham Lincoln. He was our first Republican president.
Signs
“Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken” (Luke 21:26).
Turn to Matthew 24:11 (p. 1033).“And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many” (Matthew 24:11).
“And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually” (Genesis 6:5; p. 13).
“For as the lightning, that lighteneth out of the one part under heaven, shineth unto the other part under heaven; so shall also the Son of man be in his day. But first must he suffer many things, and be rejected of this generation. And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all. Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all. Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed” (Luke 17:24-30; p. 1100).
“And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you” (Matthew 24:4; p. 1032).
“Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils” (I Timothy 4:1; p. 1276).
“For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables” (II Timothy 4:3, 4; p. 1281).
“For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ” (Jude 4; p. 1328).
“Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition” (II Thessalonians 2:3; p. 1272).
“Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron” (I Timothy 4:1, 2; p. 1276).
“And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold” (Matthew 24:12; p. 1033).
“This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away” (II Timothy 3:1-5; p. 1280).
I was taught that just before the end, lawlessness would be world-wide. Christ said, “Ye shall hear of wars and commotions” (Luke 21:9; p. 1105). The word “commotions” speaks of “rebellions, revolutions and lawlessness.”
“Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation” (II Peter 3:3, 4; p. 1319).
“Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake. And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another” (Matthew 24:9, 10; p. 1033).
“Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you. Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten. Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days” (James 5:1-3; p. 1309).
The Apostle said this would be one of the signs of the end.
“And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come” (Matthew 24:14; p. 1033).
What comes next?
Not the Rapture!
Please turn to Matthew 24:3 (p. 1032). The Disciples asked Jesus, in verse 3, “What shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?” Jesus gave them many signs of the end. Start with verses 7 and 8,
“For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. All these are the beginning of sorrows” (Matthew 24:7, 8; p. 1033).
This is where we are now.
Wars
Famines
Pestilences
Earthquakes.
“All these are the beginning of sorrows” (24:8). These are the birth pangs before the second coming of Christ.
The next major prophecy is in verse 15 (p. 1033).
“When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)” (Matthew 24:15).
This refers to the coming world dictator, the Antichrist. He will enter the Holy of Holies in the Temple and proclaim himself as God. The Antichrist will sign a “peace” treaty with the nations.
Application
Everything I have said so far was gleaned from Billy Graham’s book, World Aflame.
I have been labeled a “cult leader” by some new-evangelicals. How can I be a cultist if I preached and taught what Billy Graham taught and preached?
One of my mentors was Dr. A. W. Tozer (1897-1963). Many of Tozer’s essays are still published by Moody Press. Is Moody Bible Institute cultic?
The fact is – I am a mainstream conservative who preaches from the Scofield Study Bible. If I am a cultist, so was Billy Graham. If I am a cultist, so was A. W. Tozer and Dr. Wilbur M. Smith, and Dr. Harold Lindsell, the former editor of Christianity Today magazine. I am called a “cult” leader by Lew Rambo. But Rambo himself teaches all conservative Christians are “cultists.” Shame on him!
The main ideas in the rest of this study are gleaned from the writings of a Jewish man, David Horowitz. Is Mr. Horowitz a cultist?
Lew Rambo can say what he likes, but David Horowitz is a gentleman and a scholar. Lew Rambo is a constipated weed-loving liberal, a man who teaches at an extremely liberal seminary. I would much rather spend eternity with David Horowitz than Lew Rambo!
David Horowitz is a Jewish man with an open mind. Lew Rambo is a Gentile man with a closed mind. Now David Horowitz has written two great books that every thinking American should read. They are,
(1) The Enemy Within (Regnery, 2021).
(2) Dark Agenda (Humanix, 2019).
Horowitz dedicated the second book to his wife April and to
“My Christian buddies, Peter, Wally, and Mike for making me a better man.”
Governor Mike Huckabee called Dark Agenda, “A most compelling defense of Christianity” (jacket statement).
Horowitz explained that evangelicals and conservative Catholics were drawn to Trump because of his patriotism. Trump’s appeal was patriotism, not racism: “The Democrats and their media allies raised this against President Trump. A poll said, ‘White evangelicals continue to be supporters of Trump.’ The Democrat/Marxists do not say that 24 percent of Trump support comes from minority groups. To the leftists the only reason that evangelicals support Trump is bigotry.”
I am not a racist. My views on race are quite similar to those of Hubert Humphrey. But I voted for Trump, and I will vote for him again if he runs. Why? Because Trump has my “base.” He supports what I support. His enemies are my enemies. I voted for President Reagan for the same reason. I support Trump. I have said repeatedly, “Trump is Reagan on steroids.” He says what I wish Reagan had said more boldly. Reagan spoke to the right to life march over the telephone. Trump was the first President to actually speak to the right to life march in person. God bless him!!!!
I am convinced that Trump will run for President again. And this time he will win in such overwhelming numbers that the election cannot be “stolen” from him.
I am convinced that Donald J. Trump will be the overwhelming choice of Christians in the next presidential election. The Democrat Party is no longer my party, and it should not be your party too!
If I am right and Trump is reelected in the next presidential election, what then? Those of the left may try to assassinate him. If they succeed in killing Trump, I believe American Christianity will probably be destroyed by Communism forever.
What then? We will have to go underground as the Christians of China did. Christians went underground in Romania with Pastor Wurmbrand.
You should read Pastor Wurmbrand’s book, Tortured for Christ until you see what we will have to go through to preserve Christianity for the next generation.
Next month my wife and I will have three grandchildren, two girls and a boy. They need to hear what David Horowitz, Richard Wurmbrand and I have to say. Read Tortured for Christ to your children at bedtime. Prepare them in this way to remain “underground” Christians in the dark days that may well be ahead.
Please stand and sing our hymn again. Sing it!
