After the U.S. and British attacks on Afghanistan last Sunday, Osama bin Laden went on Arab television. Bin Laden's speech was translated from Arabic by Reuters. Here is the complete text of his speech, reprinted from the Los Angeles Times (October 8, 2001, p. A-16):

'America Will Not Live in Peace…'

Here is the text of Osama bin Laden's taped remarks, which aired on an Arab television station after the U.S. and British strikes Sunday. The remarks appear to have been made before the strikes. The text is translated from Arabic by Reuters and Associated Press. The word "God" has been replaced by the Arabic word "Allah" which is the word bin Laden literally used when he gave the speech.

I bear witness that there is no God but Allah and that Muhammad is his messenger.

There is America, hit by [Allah] in one of its softest spots. Its greatest buildings were destroyed, thank [Allah] for that. There is America, full of fear from its north to its south, from its west to its east. Thank [Allah] for that.

What America is tasting now is something insignificant compared to what we have tasted for scores of years. Our nation [the Islamic world] has been tasting this humiliation and this degradation for more than 80 years. Its sons are killed, its blood is shed, its sanctuaries are attacked and no one hears and no one heeds.

[Allah] has blessed a group of vanguard Muslims, the forefront of Islam, to destroy America. May [Allah] bless them and allot them a supreme place in heaven, for he is the only one capable and entitled to do so. When those have stood in defense of their weak children, their brothers and sisters in Palestine and other Muslim nations, the whole world went into an uproar, the infidels followed by the hypocrites.

Millions of innocent children are being killed as I speak. They are being killed in Iraq without committing any sins and we don't hear condemnation or a fatwa [religious decree] from the rulers. In these days, Israeli tanks infest Palestine--in Jenin, Ramallah, Rafah, Beit Jala and other places in the land of Islam--and we don't hear anyone raising his voice or moving a limb.

But when the sword fell upon America after 80 years, hypocrisy raised its head up high, bemoaning those killers who toyed with the blood, honor and sanctities of Muslims. The least that can be said about those people is that they are debauched. They have followed injustice. They supported the butcher over the victim, the oppressor over the innocent child. May [Allah] show them his wrath and give them what they deserve.

I say that the matter is very clear. Every Muslim after this event [should fight for their religion], after the senior officials have spoken in America, starting with the head of infidels worldwide, Bush, and those with him. They have come out in force with their men and have turned even the countries that belong to Islam to this treachery, and they want to wag their tail at [Allah], to fight Islam, to suppress people in the name of terrorism.

When people at the ends of the Earth, Japan, were killed by the hundreds of thousands, young and old, it was not considered a war crime, it is something that has justification. Millions of children in Iraq is something that has justification.

But when they lose dozens of people in Nairobi and Dar es Salaam [the capitals of Kenya and Tanzania, where U.S. embassies were bombed in 1998], Iraq was struck and Afghanistan was struck. Hypocrisy stood in force behind the head of infidels worldwide, behind the cowards of this age, America and those who are with it.

These events have divided the whole world into two sides. The side of believers and the side of infidels, may [Allah] keep you away from them. Every Muslim has to rush to make his religion victorious. The winds of faith have come. The winds of change have come to eradicate oppression from the island of Muhammad, peace be upon him.

To America, I say only a few words to it and its people: I swear to [Allah] that America will not live in peace before peace reigns in Palestine, and before all the army of infidels depart the land of Muhammad, peace be upon him.

[Allah] is great, may pride be with Islam. May peace and [Allah's] mercy be upon you.

Although the media, President Bush, and British Prime Minister Tony Blair have told us repeatedly that Islam itself is not responsible for this act of terrorism, it takes only a few minutes of research, by reading the Koran, to find out the truth. Listen to these words, quoted directly from the Koran:

"Slay the pagans [non-Muslims] wherever you find them and seize them, besiege them and lie in wait for them…" (Koran, Surah [chapter] 9:5).

"When you fight those who disbelieve smite at their necks till when you have killed and wounded many of them, then bind them, take them as captives (Koran, Surah 47:4).

In The Book of the Islamic State, the Muslim author Taqiy al-Din al-Nabahan wrote, "The glorious Koran has revealed to Muslims the reason for fighting…holy war and it [the Koran] declares that [holy war] is to carry the message of Islam to the entire world. There are several verses which command the Muslims to fight for the cause of Islam." According to these verses in the Koran, Islam should be spread by force, conquest, war and even murder.

We will consider two points in this sermon. Think carefully, as I point out -

I. First, Christ told us that real Christians will be hated of all nations.

Many people who are ignorant of the Koran and the true teachings of Islam think that the acts of terrorism would end if the United States stopped supporting Israel. But even a little thought and intelligence will show this to be false. The Muslims have been attacking Christians in many parts of the world for years - in places like the Sudan, Ethiopia, Indonesia, and the Philippine Islands. Muslims have burned churches and killed Christians by the thousands in those places for the past several years. None of the Muslim terrorism in those countries had anything at all to do with U.S. support of Israel! The reason terrorists attack Christians in the Sudan, Ethiopia, Indonesia, the Philippines, and other places is to destroy Christianity and to spread Islam! Remember what the Koran says:

"When you fight those who disbelieve smite at their necks till when you have killed and wounded many of them, then bind them, take them as captives (Koran, 47:4).

That's exactly what the Muslims did last spring to an American tourist named Guillermo Sobero.  He was vacationing on Basilan Island in the Philippines. The Muslims took him captive and beheaded him! The Los Angeles Times gives this report:

The FBI will conduct DNA tests to identify a decapitated body and skull that Philippine rebels say are the remains of American tourist Guillermo Sobero of Corona, an agency spokesman said Tuesday.

The victim's brother said FBI investigators told him they "strongly believe" the remains found in a grave on Basilan Island are those of Sobero, whom the Muslim extremist group Abu Sayyaf kidnapped and claimed to have beheaded last spring.

"They're pretty sure it's him," said his brother, Alberto Sobero of Cathedral City.

Abu Sayyaf, which has an estimated 1,000 rebel members, says it is fighting to establish an Islamic state in the south of the mainly Roman Catholic Philippines. The group has engaged in a campaign of bombings, assassinations and kidnappings since 1995, according to the U.S. State Department.

The Philippine government has dispatched about 5,000 troops to hunt the rebels. In August, Muslim extremists kidnapped another 36 Filipinos and beheaded at least four.

Guillermo Sobero was beheaded. Four Philipinos were beheaded. The Muslims use terror to take control of new areas and frighten and conquer the Protestants and even the Catholics into submission.  They committed genocide among peaceful Armenian Christians in the early twentieth century.

And that's exactly why they attacked the Pentagon and the World Trade Center last month. They want America to submit to them out of fear.

Jesus gave this prophecy, which we read a moment ago:

"Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you…" (Matthew 24:9a).

Yes, Christ told us that Christians will be hated by all nations.

"…And ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake"

(Matthew 24:9b).

The persecution of Christians is going on all around the world tonight. Did you hear about the two Christian girls who are held in prison by the Taliban regime for "spreading Christianity"? Here is the story, from the Los Angeles Times:

Parents Beg Taliban to Free Workers

Afghanistan: One woman's father offers to take her place. The two Americans were arrested on charges of trying to spread Christianity.

Choking back tears, the parents of two American aid workers under arrest in Afghanistan pleaded Monday for the release of the women, with the father of one begging the ruling Taliban to let him take his daughter's place.

Dayna Curry, 24, and Heather Mercer, 29, are among eight Western aid workers arrested last month by the Taliban's religious police and accused of seeking to convert Muslims to Christianity, a violation of Afghanistan's Islamic law.

The thought of what might happen to his daughter brought John Mercer to the brink of tears several times.

The Westerners work for Shelter Now International, a Christian relief agency that provides food and shelter for impoverished Afghans. Those arrested Aug. 5 also include four Germans and two Australians.

Sixteen of Shelter Now International's Afghan staff members also were arrested and could face the death penalty if they are found guilty of converting to Christianity.

What did these Christian girls get for bringing food and medicine to these Muslims? They got imprisonment, and possible execution! That's how Muslims treat Christians in Indonesia, Malaysia, Africa, and the Philippines. These people are out to destroy our religion and culture and force us to convert to Islam! And they will do it if they can!

But remember that Christ said, "Ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake" (Matthew 24:9). A person who is an out-and-out Christian will be persecuted even in America. I went to the bank on Wednesday. A woman in the bank was cussing, taking God's name in vain in a loud voice. I quietly said, "Excuse me, Ma'am, would you please stop cussing?" She started screaming at me, "This is America. We have freedom of speech! I can cuss if I want to!" I quietly responded by saying, "But it is offensive to many people to talk like that in a public place. Why should we be forced to listen to such vulgar talk?" Another woman, on the other side of the bank, started screaming at me also! A third woman who worked for the bank came over and started yelling at me! There they were - three beady-eyed American women screaming at me at the top of their lungs! I finally said, "If you three woman will stop yelling, this will be over. Just stop yelling!" They finally did - but all three of them looked at me with hatred in their eyes - all because I softly asked the first woman to stop cussing!

Women like this are ruining our country. This kind of American woman drives her husband into submission or divorce. They bring their filthy, loud-mouthed talk into their homes to pollute the minds of their children. And make no mistake, rebellious women like this are responsible for the extermination of 40 million babies in America. They have killed forty million of your brothers and sisters by abortion! I say that women like this are absolutely evil! The Bible speaks of "silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts" (II Timothy 3:6). If you let a woman like that control your life, you are a fool. I don't care who she is - even your own mother! Jesus said, "He that loveth…mother more than me is not worthy of me" (Matthew 10:37). Don't let a woman like that send you to Hell! Be in church next Sunday whether your mother likes it or not!

The Bible says, "Women rule over them…they which lead thee cause thee to err, and destroy the way of thy paths" (Isaiah 3:12). Don't let a woman like that lead you astray. Don't let an evil mother destroy your soul! Be in church next Sunday no matter what some wicked old woman says! You are not going to become a real Christian without somebody getting angry with you - in these evil days. Jesus said, "Ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake" (Matthew 24:9).  The Devil himself will do everything in his power to keep you from coming back to church next Sunday.  You must resist the Devil and come back anyway!

II. Secondly, Christ told us we would have to go through offences,
betrayals and hatred.

He said:

"And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another" (Matthew 24:10).

Writing in the New York Times, A. M. Rosenthal said:

One of the shocking untold stories of our time is that more Christians have died in this century simply for being Christians than in any century since Christ was born ( Encyclopedia of Christian Quotations, Baker, 2000, p. 724).

Columnist Michael Horowitz says:

Christians have become targets around the world…We're talking not about discrimination, but persecution of the worst sort: slavery, starvation, murder, looting, burning, torture ( Encyclopedia of Christian Quotations, ibid.).

All over the world tonight there is hostility toward real Christians. You will not escape if you become a real follower of Christ - even in America. You will be slandered, slighted, and abused if you turn fully to Christ. Although I disagree with him on his Catholicism, the English author G. K. Chesterton was right when he said:

Jesus promised His disciples three things - that they would be completely fearless, absurdly happy and in constant trouble.

The great English preacher Charles Simeon said, "Persecution for righteousness' sake is what every child of God must expect."

The Bible says:

"Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution" (II Timothy 3:12).

Notice that the verse says "all." " All that will live godly shall suffer persecution." In that passage, we are told this will happen in the "last days" -

"This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be…despisers of those that are good"

(II Timothy 3:1-3).

And we are seeing it right now.

If you become a real Christian, they will mock you at school for bowing your head and saying grace publicly. They will say you are "weird" and "extreme" for defending the Bible in your classroom. Many of you have parents who will turn against you if you become a real Christian.

There is a Spanish girl in Mrs. Cagan's class who knows about this from personal experience. She's here this evening. Her mother said, "If you go back to that Baptist church I'm kicking you out for good." Well, the girl kept coming. She's now a fine Christian!  She's here this evening! And her mother did kick her out - so she went to live with Mr. Lee, one of the leaders of our church! Two weeks ago that mother came herself, to witness the baptism of the first girl's sister, who also comes to our church now. It wouldn't surprise me if we get the mother herself, sooner or later! The only way to get your mother saved is to take a strong stand and be in church no matter what happens, and no matter what she says!

Is it worth going through persecution to be a Christian? Is it worth going through suffering to follow Christ? You bet! Millions of people across the centuries of time have said that it is worth every bit of suffering if you know Jesus Christ! Why have they said that? Because Jesus died on the Cross and shed His Blood so your sins could be forgiven, so your conscience would be cleansed by His Blood. The Bible says:

"How much more shall the blood of Christ…purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?"

(Hebrews 9:14).

Yes, Christ can cleanse your conscience. His Blood can wash away your guilt! Your heart will be free when you know Christ!

And, then too, Christ has risen flesh and bone from the dead. He said to Thomas:

"Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side [into the hole made by the centurion's spear]: and be not faithless, but believing"

(John 20:27).

Tonight I am asking you to come to the living Christ. He has risen from the dead. He is now seated at the right hand of God in Heaven. Come to Jesus Christ, and He will forgive your sins, and you will live forever! We do not have peace on this earth, but we do have peace in our hearts, and we will have peace forever in Heaven!

Come back to this church next Sunday!  And come all the way to Jesus Christ - and trust Him!  You'll never, ever be sorry you did!
