The purpose of this website is to provide free sermon manuscripts and sermon videos to pastors and missionaries throughout the world, especially the Third World, where there are few if any theological seminaries or Bible schools.

These sermon manuscripts and videos now go out to about 1,500,000 computers in over 221 countries every year at www.sermonsfortheworld.com. Hundreds of others watch the videos on YouTube, but they soon leave YouTube and come to our website. YouTube feeds people to our website. The sermon manuscripts are given in 46 languages to about 120,000 computers each month. The sermon manuscripts are not copyrighted, so preachers can use them without our permission. THE GREAT WHITE THRONE JUDGMENT

by Dr. R. L. Hymers, Jr.

A sermon preached at the Baptist Tabernacle of Los Angeles
Saturday Morning, September 5, 2009

“And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire” (Revelation 20:11-15).

This is the Apostle John’s prophecy of the Last Judgment of the unsaved dead. There are no modern songs about it except the little chorus we will sing at the end of the sermon. There were many songs on this subject during the First Great Awakening, but they are no longer in use. This is because, as Brian Edwards said that there may seem to be “good things in the churches today, but beneath it all is a rottenness of worldliness, carelessness, a lack of deep commitment…our churches are divided, quarrelsome. Generally speaking [church people] think and believe like the world and are afraid to act differently…Most of our churches are like Laodicea” (Brian Edwards, Revival! A People Saturated With God, Evangelical Press, 1997 reprint, pp. 37-38).

“Most of our churches are like Laodicea,” said Brian Edwards. But what does that mean? It means that Christ will say to them at the White Throne Judgment,

“I will spue thee out of my mouth” (Revelation 3:16).

If you are like most church kids and adult church members, Christ will “spit you out of His mouth” at the White Throne Judgment. And when He spues you out of His mouth, you will spit out into the eternal flames of Hell!

Take warning then from our text. Be very anxious and concerned, and worried that Christ will spue you out of His mouth,

“Into a lake of fire burning with brimstone” (Revelation 19:20).

The Great White Throne Judgment will be where you are judged for your sins if they have never been cleansed by the Blood of Christ.

“And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works”
       (Revelation 20:12).

Every sin in your life will be

“judged out of those things which were written in the books” (Revelation 20:12).

I speak to those of you who are yet unconverted. This verse in Revelation 20:12 says the unsaved dead “small and great” shall “stand before God to be judged for their [sinful] works.” Every unsaved “church kid” will be judged for his sins. Every unconverted adult will be judged for his sinful “works.” You see, God has a perfect record of your sins in His “books.” Dr. McGee said that these “books” may well include a video of your life,

And Christ is going to play that [video] tape. I think it will be on a television screen [so everyone can see the sins you committed and] you can watch it too. Do you think your life can stand [this] test? (J. Vernon McGee, Thru the Bible, Thomas Nelson Publishers, 1983, volume V, p. 1061).

What will you feel when all the world sees what is on those videos, and is recorded on those record books, at the Great White Throne Judgment? It will be too late to change then. The videos and books will have a record of every sin in your life. God will open the books and every one of your sins will be revealed for all the world to see.

“And the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works” (Revelation 20:12).

The sins you committed in your body will be judged as evil works. Sins like looking at pornography, sins like lewdness and sexual sins, sins like “making out,” sins like lusting in your mind over some person you are attracted to until you lust after them in your room when you are alone, sins like smoking cigarettes or marijuana, sins like sneaking a drink, or taking some drug. Sins like stealing, even stealing a small amount; all will be read by God from His record book. All will condemn you in the sight of God.

The sins you commit against your parents will be read from God’s record book. Some of you hate your fathers and are bitter against them. That is one of the worst sins. Some of you do not respect your mother, and talk back to her. These are horrible sins that will condemn you on that day.

The sins you commit in church are among the worst sins on your record. The horrible things you say, and the ugly things you do, – these will all be read out of God’s books, and these sins will condemn you.

And all your “secret sins” will all be revealed when God reads them from His record books. Dr. McGee said they will be shown on a video screen for everyone to see. You thought you kept them a secret, but the all-seeing God saw them. They are all recorded. All your most secret sins will be brought out in the open for God, and all the world to see. Your secret sins will make you feel great shame then, but that will do you no good then. Then it will be too late to have them erased from God’s books by the Blood of Christ. It will be too late for your secret sins to be covered and cleansed by Christ’s Blood when you stand before the throne of God.

Then there are the sins of hating and disliking others in the church, sins of variance, wrath, strife, and sins of envyings. Do you envy someone? If you do, it is recorded in God’s books, and it will damn you to Hell (Galatians 5:21). Do you dislike others who are not of the same race as you? Do you avoid them in the church? That sin is recorded by God. It is a soul-damning sin.

But then there are the sins of the spirit. Do you love God with all your heart? Or do you really dislike being in all these meetings for prayer? And if you dislike all these prayer meetings, does not this show that you really don’t like God at all? Oh, you would never admit it, I know, but be honest – don’t some of you really hate being “dragged” to church for yet another prayer meeting? And if that has any truth in it, does it not show that, in your heart, you are an enemy of God? The Bible says that this is so!

“Because the carnal mind is enmity against God” (Romans 8:7).

Don’t some of you wish that your parents weren’t in church so much? And doesn’t that show that you dislike being with God’s people, and that you really don’t like being where God is? And if that is true, doesn’t it prove that the Bible is right when it says your heart is an enemy of God? Your anger at God, and lack of love for Him are terrible sins. Jesus said to “love God,” but you have broken that commandment. In your heart, you are God’s enemy. That secret sin in your heart, that you have hidden from others, will be read by God out of His book of Judgment. It will condemn you at the White Throne Judgment.

And isn’t it true that you have some lost friends outside the church, that you like to be with more than the Christians in the church? The Apostle James said,

“Whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God” (James 4:4).

Mark it down. The sin of having lost friends makes you the enemy of God. It’s written down in God’s record book – you are an enemy of God for clinging to lost friends. “Enemy of God” is written down under your name in God’s record book!

“And the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books” (Revelation 20:12).

Deeper still, is not your very heart desperately wicked? The prophet Jeremiah says it is.

“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked” (Jeremiah 17:9).

Is not your heart desperately selfish? Is not your heart totally self-centered? Is not your heart completely ungrateful to Christ for suffering and dying on the Cross to save you? In fact is Christ not “despised and rejected” by you? (Isaiah 53:3). Don’t you have no love for Him, no real love at all? And will not these sins of your totally depraved and selfish heart also be recorded in God’s books of Judgment?

If any of the sins I have listed apply to you, you will be damned at the White Throne Judgment. Only the Blood of Christ can blot out those sins. Only the Blood of Christ can write your name in the Book of Life. Please remember,

“Whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire” (Revelation 20:15).

I exhort you to confess your sins before it is eternally too late. I plead with you to think deeply about the sins I have mentioned, and others I have not mentioned. I urge you to turn from these evils now, while you still can, and be washed clean from them by Christ’s Blood, while there is still time, or else “your sins will find you out” at the White Throne Judgment, and you will be “cast into the lake of fire”! Think of your sins. Be convicted of your sins. Turn away from them and flee to Christ.
